Ok, I've managed to build everything, and after a lot of work, to |
2 |
compile a kernel which actually boots :) Here are some other problems I |
3 |
ran into while I was installing: |
4 |
|
5 |
- /usr/portage/sys-apps/file/file-3.33-r3.ebuild has a typo (the |
6 |
filename should end in .tar.gz, not .tar.bz) |
7 |
|
8 |
- the default kernel config doesn't compile in support for ext2fs or for |
9 |
IDE drives (it compiles them as modules instead). This causes a |
10 |
kernel panic when booting if / is on an IDE drive. It says to make |
11 |
sure to turn on ext2 support in the install docs, but it didn't say |
12 |
anything about IDE/ATA support (I assumed it would be compiled in by |
13 |
default). |
14 |
|
15 |
- I had to remove the `notail' option for my root partition from |
16 |
/etc/fstab; ext3fs doesn't seem to like that option and gets mounted |
17 |
read-only if you use it. |
