[gentoo-dev] portage2 dev status?

is portage2 still in development? or is new work soley on extending the 
existing code base?

i've been trying to follow portage development but its hard as the mailing 
list for it has closed subscription and the archives for it likewise 
restricted. i've found a few bugtracker entries, and read through uwyn's 
comments on the c++/python directions, but i'm unable to find any current 
information on its status. the project page seems to have been removed from 
the public gentoo site. 

out of curosity, is it standard practice for gentoo development to take place 
privately?
