Maybe a GLEP with the contents of your first mail? If there's consensus |

for the premise and the implementation, it's easy to add the variables. |

Since the change is essentially a no-op for Gentoo, I don't think it |

will be hard to get maintainers to accept the changes. We do however |

have to worry about editing stable ebuilds in-place, and maintainers who |

are picky about their packages being modified. |
