10 Maybe a GLEP with the contents of your first mail? If there's consensus
11 for the premise and the implementation, it's easy to add the variables.
12 Then it's only a matter of updating ebuilds.

14 Since the change is essentially a no-op for Gentoo, I don't think it
15 will be hard to get maintainers to accept the changes. We do however
16 have to worry about editing stable ebuilds in-place, and maintainers who
17 are picky about their packages being modified.

19 You may wind up having to file bugs for a lot of packages that need a
20 new revision.
