Hi again everyone, |
2 |
|
3 |
Could you also include, with your data, the packages that you maintain |
4 |
(I forgot to request that info). |
5 |
|
6 |
Thanks. |
7 |
|
8 |
Best regards, |

Hi everyone, |
20 |
|
21 |
I am attempting to gather data for my Simulation course at Columbia |
22 |
University. The data will be used for my Simulation project where my |
23 |
aim is to estimate the work load of developers related to the |
24 |
maintenance of the portage tree. The Simulation will generate fake |
25 |
package releases and bug reports in simulation time, and compute the |
26 |
number of hours each developer spends working as well as other |
27 |
interesting information. |
28 |
|
29 |
There are two pieces of data that I am attempting to gather: |
30 |
|
31 |
1) emerge.logs from all developers maintaining packages (to determine |
32 |
the respective compile times of all maintained packages in portage |
33 |
tree), preferably multiple ones from each (to gauge the effect of |
34 |
multiple workstations). |
35 |
|
36 |
2) A rough estimate from all developers maintaining packages of how |
37 |
many times they have to recompile (i.e. test their ebuilds) a package |
38 |
before committing a new ebuild. |
39 |
|
40 |
The more data I can collect, the more accurate the Simulation will be. |
41 |
Thank you all in advance for your cooperation. And thank you for |
42 |
spending the time making a great distribution. |
43 |
|
44 |
Best regards, |
45 |
|
