Ok, these reasonable questions can/must be answerd by reading the Gentoo Installation Handbook

However, the overview is that Gentoo installation process is divided into 3 main Stages.
Each Stage has stage file from which the process is initiated, the stage 1 is more for an
Installation from Scratch and the stage 3 is concived to save time and effort but is less customized.

The Gentoo Handbook is a VERY important effort made by people who has worked for us -willing to
install/try Gentoo- to have a real clear set of directions and instructions.
Once you read Gentoo documentation -of any kind- you will realize how user-friendly the documents
are prepared for new comers and experts. You hardly find yourself in front of a question you can't
get an answer for when reading Gentoo Docs. And if you do, there are Lists, Forums and IRC... and
people interested in helping others willing to learn and experiment (very Debian like, but maybe
better).
