36 First of all *time*. Time and long term commitment is crucial here.
37 Then you need some basic technical skills which you normally get after
38 being a developer for a good 8-12 months or so. So, staffers and new
39 developers can't really be recruiters. Apart from that, some kind of
40 basic social skills are required, in the sense that you need to be
41 understanding, helpful and patient with recruits, especially when the
42 mentors have failed to prepare them properly ;) Think about your
43 recruiter and if he did a good job with you. If yes, then great. Be
44 like him :) if not, then great again. Think of what you would like him
45 to have done better? Would you have done it better yourself? If yes,
46 then great, you would most likely be a good addition to the team.
