Hi François |
2 |
|
3 |
Thank you for your interest! |
4 |
Since you are just starting with Gentoo it is probably not wise to invite you |
5 |
into some kind of developership right away :), however you still may find |
6 |
Gentoo Development handbook usefull: |
7 |
http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/devrel/handbook/handbook.xml |
8 |
It has a good deal of information on how to write ebuilds, eclasses, what |
9 |
caveats to expect, - stuff that you will find usefull if you want to step |
10 |
outside of merely "using" Gentoo. This reference might be usefull too: |
11 |
http://devmanual.gentoo.org/ |
12 |
although I'd suggest it as a second "more advanced" reading :). |
13 |
|
14 |
As for the involvement: the natural place to start would be to look at |
15 |
bugzilla: |
16 |
https://bugs.gentoo.org |
17 |
search for sci bugs and start helping. Resolving real problems or just |
18 |
testing/cleaning up submitted ebuilds. Of course you may as well submit |
19 |
ebuilds of your own ;) (but search the bugs first! You will be amazed hom |
20 |
much stuff we have there). |
21 |
|
22 |
Since you metion you are interested in physics you should probably look here: |
23 |
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=138711 |
24 |
The bug is closed, since the herd has already been created (as announced), |
25 |
however it lists the number of packages that are expected to be added to the |
26 |
tree eventually. You may try creating ebuilds for some of those that are not |
27 |
in bugzilla yet. However if you do so, I'd suggest you coordinate with Luis |
28 |
Medinas, who is the reporter of that bug and who "oversees" the physics |
29 |
caterogy and herd.. |
30 |
|
31 |
Thanks again for your interest and wellcome! |
32 |
|
33 |
George |
