Hi, |
2 |
|
3 |
I'm having serious networking problems between 2 Gentoo Linux boxes. The |
4 |
configurations are: |
5 |
|
6 |
Server: VIA EPIA 500MHz, 512Mb memory, 40Gb disk, VIA-Rhine and Realtek |
7 |
8139 network cards |
8 |
|
9 |
Client: Intel P4, 1Gb memory, 80+120Gb disk, Realtek network card |
10 |
|
11 |
The following can be observed: |
12 |
|
13 |
- I can communicate between server and client, but at average speeds |
14 |
around 40Kbs for a 100Mbit connection via a switch (crosslink cable |
15 |
doesn't make a difference). |
16 |
|
17 |
- Whenever I use an NFS mounted directory on the client (/usr/portage) the |
18 |
process will hang after a (very) short amount of network traffic. The |
19 |
client process has the "D" flag in the ps output so it is waiting for I/O. |
20 |
Nothing shows in the logs on the server. |
21 |
|
22 |
- On the server I've tried gentoo-sources (2.4.20-r8 and 2.4.22-r2) and |
23 |
vanilla-sources (2.4.23). Also I've switched between the VIA-Rhine and |
24 |
Realtek for the server-client connection. No differences. |
25 |
|
26 |
- On the client I've tried gentoo-sources (2.4.20-r8 and 2.4.22-r2), but |
27 |
not the vanilla-sources. |
28 |
|
29 |
- On the server ifconfig shows an enormous amount of dropped packets, but |
30 |
no errors. |
31 |
|
32 |
So, based on the above info, could you guys explain to me what is wrong. |
33 |
I've recently switched my FreeBSD server to the above server and before |
34 |
that I didn't have any problems with networking between any of the |
35 |
machines. |
36 |
|
37 |
Thanks in advance for any info, |
38 |
|
