I've heard this discussion a few times before. I think we should find out what
this zeroconf does that makes it so smart, meanwhile we should figure out
different ways to solve the problem so that we have multiple ways to achive
the goal, maybe there are environments where zeroconf doesn't work(?).

The problem is, as far as I understand, to find a way to get the initial
installation configuration when booting a computer for the first time from
(cd, floppy, usbdrive or harddrive?). The candidates are currently.:

*zeroconf
-(requirements? IPv4/IPv6 network? mac-address?)
-[please fill in here]
*dhcp
-minimum requirement: a mac-address
*bootp
-minimum requirement
*fixed gold-server address (ie. gold-server is always located at 10.0.0.123)

I think we need to make several approches to achive a allround solution. If
this is the situation then there are a few options (as I see it :)

*To make a distribution that tries every thinkable method for discovering the
gold-server. (probably very noisy on the network, but probably very
effective)
*To make a distribution that needs user intervention (ie. set the address for
the gold-server manually)
*To make a distribution that just does it the right way (ie. if zeroconf works
out magic:)

Sorry for my poor english :|
