14 I don't think you need that silly cable. My understanding was that the
15 audio cable connected to you sound card was for when you wanted to
16 listen to the cd and your computer was in "low-power mode" Either way, I
17 have stopped installing that cable on new computers that I build and it
18 has always worked fine for me.

21 Are you sure you are in the "cdrom" group? Are you sure you have a
22 /dev/cdrom node? Any different outcome if you do mplayer /dev/hdc?
