5 AFAICT no and AFAICT nor should any other MySQL instance on any platform.

7 According to sql/share/charsets/README those files are only for simple
8 charsets, e.g., with single-byte characters. UTF-8 is multi-byte and
9 thus should be compiled in the strings library.
