20 I got an email directly from the maintainer pointing me to something in
21 the gentoo bugs db,

25 which basically says there was something wrong and re-emerging glibc
26 will fix the problem. I did this then ran my "emerge -NuD world". Lo &
27 behold, V5 of the compiler was installed, not the V4.?? that I was
28 having trouble with, and installed cleanly. As V5 is now there, I can't
29 be bothered checking on the V4 problem.
