It does help, and by telling me about gcc-config answers my 2nd |
10 |
question, how to switch. |
11 |
|
12 |
There's still my first question, though. These instructions assume I |
13 |
already have the gcc-5 ebuild, plus dependencies. If I do a normal full |
14 |
sync to achieve that, I already commit to going all the way. Presumably |
15 |
there'll be many packages in this update that will build-depend on the |
16 |
new gcc (especially those using C++), so I won't be able to just go back |
17 |
to gcc-4 by masking gcc-5 and proceeding as usual if something goes very |
18 |
wrong. |
19 |
|
20 |
What I hope for is a way to selectively download only the gcc-5 ebuild |
21 |
and its depndencies, which I could temporarily put in a separate local |
22 |
repo. Then, if the gcc update goes OK, I can move them in the normal |
23 |
portage tree and go ahead with the rest of the update. |
24 |
|
25 |
Thanks, and sorry for my extreme caution. With a source distro like |
26 |
gentoo a gcc upgrade is like a brain transplant. |
