5 Yes. You can either use mdadm to create a partitionable raid device,
6 or use LVM/EVMS (which would be my recommendation) to create logical
7 volumes on the array.

9 Just beware that /boot should either be it's own partition (non-raid),
10 or on a RAID-1 array (with no partitions). Otherwise the boot loader
11 will have trouble locating and loading the kernel.
