1 The "stable" or "frozen" tree effort was not exactly abandoned so much
2 as placed on a back burner to under go further research. There were some
3 concerns from some of the devs as to how much additional work would be
4 placed on them and their archs (some of the non-x86 archs have few
5 developers and certainly don't need extra work piled on). Overall, there
6 were a number of issues that needed to be worked out prior to any kind
7 of attempt at starting such a project (officially).

9 The original GLEP by Kurt Lieber remains up for review at
10 http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/glep/glep-0019.html for those who are
11 interested.

13 (At the risk of making waves and upsetting people for making more work,
14 I will say the following... If this is something that is important to
15 you and how you use Gentoo (or would like to), I urge you to read GLEP
16 19 and make some noise about this. The more users (and devs) that are
17 interested in such a feature, the more likely such a feature will be
18 worked on.)
