If this is the issue, then one month would be sufficient to both try it
out and to let the new trustees make a decision without sitting on their
hands for another five months.

It makes sense here to talk about the per-month cost of each option:

Option                 |  Cost per month

$6.95 per month        |  6.95
$18.45 for 3 months    |  6.15
$34.95 for 6 months    |  5.825
$59.95 for 12 months   |  4.99

So, if we gave it a one-month trial then decided to go for a full year,
versus the 6 months now and buying another 6 months after that (since
the then-new trustees may want to be in on the next decision)), the
difference would be:

1 month, then a year: 66.90
6 months, then 6 more: 69.90

=> 3.00 cheaper to go with the one-month trial.

So the cost difference is negligible, and the question becomes: Do you
want the new trustees to be a part of this decision now?
