It might affect any percentual quorum requirements, as mentioned |
29 |
elsewhere. |
30 |
It also means I'm officially (and automatically) part of some |
31 |
organization structure in a country whose laws I have no idea of. For |
32 |
example, can it somehow affect any future USA Visa applying needs if |
33 |
something goes bad with the Foundation (which is completely out of my |
34 |
control). Probably not, unless I'm an official trustee position, but |
35 |
who knows. I just don't want to care at this point; once I do, I want |
36 |
to be able to apply myself, and I might just as well do once I know the |
37 |
details, at a point of time I want to spend time finding out. But it is |
38 |
MY choice. |
39 |
|
40 |
I don't think such automatic inclusion is even legal in my country case |
41 |
(well, if the Gentoo Foundation were a non-profit in my country, but it |
42 |
isn't, so it doesn't apply, but still). I don't know if it would be |
43 |
legal in the state of New Mexico. |
44 |
|
45 |
I have no idea what a Foundation means; I know what a MTÜ means in my |
46 |
country. Can a foundation be considered a workplace, so (Gentoo) work I |
47 |
do would be owned by it. I have no clue, and that's a problem. The |
48 |
foundation page talks something about intellectual property rights, |
49 |
does it mean I would be automatically assigning my copyright over to be |
50 |
able to enforce these rights? I don't want to have a clue right now, |
51 |
just don't force me to be a Foundation member if I want to be a Gentoo |
52 |
developer. |
53 |
|
54 |
And (people in official positions within the Foundation, or delegated |
55 |
appropriate) should spell these kind of things out very clearly, so I |
56 |
can make a well-informed decision in the future without spending too |
57 |
much research. And then become a member if I see merit, by my OWN |
58 |
choice. Just like I chose to become a Gentoo developer in 2006; I |
59 |
didn't choose to become a foundation member, don't make me one |
60 |
automatically. I believe there was no Gentoo Foundation then. |
