17 Honestly, I don't get the problem you're stating with using IP. If you
18 connect 2 machines with Ethernet, assign them both a static IP address
19 on the same subnet, with no gateway or anything, you can easily have
20 them communicate using the IP addresses only. A computer doesn't require
21 internet access to have local network IP connectivity.
