Curiosity got the better of me as my memory of a month ago fades :) |
2 |
|
3 |
From MacOS: |
4 |
|
5 |
Insert GentooCD |
6 |
double click bootX (assumes you have kernel in appropriate place) |
7 |
click options button |
8 |
click 'boot from specified ram disk' |
9 |
navigate CD to GentooPPC_1.4:boot:livecd.img |
10 |
click ok |
11 |
in kernel options/arguments box enter: |
12 |
devfs=mount init=linuxrc.installer rw |
13 |
NOTE: I don't know if the rw option is necessary - it was in 1.2 |
14 |
click the linux button |
15 |
|
16 |
You should boot into the (partial on rc2) installer which will allow you |
17 |
to setup the network and partition your disks and extract the stage |
18 |
tarball that you want to use. The docs from 1.2 were sufficiently close |
19 |
to allow me to continue from there, although IIRC there were not any |
20 |
stage tarballs on the iso I have - thus the need to transfer it from a |
21 |
hfs partition where it was downloaded by macos - I couldn't remember the |
22 |
url from ibiblio to use wget. |
23 |
|
24 |
REQUEST TO ANY PACKAGERS: |
25 |
we oldworld users want quik instead of yaboot - thank you debian |
26 |
|
27 |
also, my ancient twinturbo video driver was not built by default in the |
28 |
build of X, so I grabbed a binary module from debian which has worked |
29 |
fine. I love apt-get, but for me, the optimized compiles have made |
30 |
gentoo the distro for me. |
31 |
|
32 |
Thanks guys, |
33 |
|
